How are the Scout Programs of Adventure Scouts USA relevant to education?

Our Scout Programs are an informal educational platform that provides our Scouts opportunities to acquire new skills as well as develop self-confidence, determination, and good character.

Our Scouts have the opportunity to build life skills while participating in activities and mastering Challenges, which are projects our Scouts complete to move upward in our Personal Achievement Program.

In our Scout Programs, our Scouts choose, organize, and lead their meetings, programs and activities, providing our Scouts the opportunity to choose the interests they wish to pursue and to become invested in the learning process.

We welcome the input of educators across the nation to assist our Scouts in learning, succeeding and becoming whole people.

What are the educational benefits of participation in the Personal Achievement Programs of the Scout Programs of Adventure Scouts USA?

Our Scouts who choose to participate in our Personal Achievement Programs have the unique advantage of discovering how of all their academic subjects are interrelated and they acquire an appreciation and interest in the value of lifelong learning.

When our Scouts participate in an activity such as going on a hike, they also learn about the plants, animals, and landforms they discover along the way.  The hike is the activity, but as part of each activity, they gain knowledge about the world around them.

For example, if our Scouts decide to explore a lake, they acquire many different pieces and types of information.

They learn the location of the lake (geography), the history of the lake (social studies), what kind of life is necessary for a healthy ecosystem (life science), what industry is in the area working to end pollution (job search training), and what edible food may surround the lake (nutrition).  Our Scouts may choose to build a walking path around the lake as a service project (physical education).

By participating in our Personal Achievement Programs, our Scouts acquire knowledge of many different facts from many different fields of study. They further develop their critical and creative thinking skills as they learn by doing.  As they accomplish activities, they begin to predict for themselves what pieces of information they will need to acquire and they better appreciate the scope of the activity and the interrelatedness of all their school subjects.
