Entire Weekend Activities PDF Print E-mail

Entire weekend activities differ from weekend activities because last for the entire weekend rather than a few hours.  Scouts do some of the planning during team meetings.

Camping

We feature many outdoor-related activities, such as camping.  Camping requires planning.  Scouts will need to decide ahead of time where they want to camp, check weather conditions and make sure inclement weather is not predicted, decide who will be in charge of bringing what. boy and tent The Scouts need to decide what equipment they need, such a tents and a camp stove.  They will also need supplies such as food.  The Scouts need to decide what they want to eat, what is within their budget, and who is going to do the shopping.  The food will also need to be stored, if it cannot be picked up just before leaving.  Possibly a Scout’s parents or the team sponsor can offer refrigerator space.  Each Scout should be given a responsibility.  The Team Leader will check and double check to make sure everyone is accomplishing their responsibilities and that all the needed supplies are there before the team leaves on their adventure.

Counselors must remember to always use common sense.  If there is inclement weather, they must find an alternative.

Scouts need to decide ahead of time what to pack in their backpacks.  Counselors must remember to always use common sense.  If there is inclement weather, they must find an alternative.  Counselors also must use common sense when Scouts are packing their backpacks.  The weight of the pack is dependent upon the size and strength of the Scout.

Expos

Expos go on for either one day or both days of the weekend.  They take up less time than a camping trip, but require a greater commitment of time than other weekend activities.

Expos require planning.  Scouts are responsible for choosing the topic of the Expo, organizing the exhibitors, the guests, the location, and every detail of the Expo.  They lead the entire event from start to finish, and afterward evaluate their efforts.

The Team Leader will delegate different responsibilities to the Scouts.  Each Scout should have a responsibility.  A Scout will pick the location, such as a school or community center.  Another Scout will get invitations made to send to those who are invited to set up booths.  Another Scout will decide what kind of food to have available and which vendors need to be invited.  Scouts will need to decide whether to sell items and how to do it.  If they need a license to sell food that will need to be taken care of.  There are many responsibilities to be taken care of ahead of time.

At the Expos, Scouts can serve different purposes.  They can act as security, as greeters to the public, and also take part in the Expo as visitors.

Trips

Scouts can choose to travel to areas of the country and new places.  Locations such as Cape Kennedy and Washington D.C. are two examples.  Camping facilities are usually nearby, although hotels may be used.
